  MANCHESTER - The Malmaison Hotel

Hotel: Malmaison, Manchester, UK
Date: 27/1/04-30/1/04
Purpose: Leisure/visiting friends
Cost: GBP89 including breakfast
Comments: This is a high-style, low cost hotel chain. It is highly popular with the travelling business people, judging by the number of them checking in everyday. I seem to be the only 'leisure' guest at the hotel! It is quite basic, but stylish. The quality of the furnishings is not very good. It is like a stylish college accommodation. The service was to be expected at the price. Staff was not very friendly, nor very helpful. I foolishly asked the reception to send someone to my room to collect some laundry for me and got the following reply,"Just take it down to reception!" Well, what can I say, having just stayed at the Madinat and Burj al Arab in Dubai the days before....maybe I was spoilt! In the bathrooms, they give you a set of locally made Scottish shower gel and shampoo. Quite nice. There is also a CD player in the room. You can borrow from a selection of CD's at the reception. The restaurant serves decent food. The breakfast was better than I expected. There is 'Le Petit Spa' in the basement, using my favourite ESPA products and treatments. There is also a very small gym room.
