Hotel: The Peninsula Hotel Hong Kong
Room type: Deluxe Harbour View Suite in Tower Block
Occasion: Wedding Anniversary Celebration
Cost: With compliments of the hotel
Description: The Peninsula is a landmark in Hong Kong. It opened its doors
on 11th December 1928 and has just celebrated its 75th birthday. The suite
pictured is in the new tower block extension. It has the most amazing
view of the whole of the harbour and the city. It is a very spacious room
with a lobby area and a guest toilet just off it, a large living room,
an equally spacious bedroom, a dressing area with a separate butler's
entrace and a spacious full marble toilet with views of the whole of Kowloon
peninsula. We love the Peninsula. Their service must be one of the best
we have encountered in our many trips. At check-in, the staff courteously
said, "Welcome back, Dr.Kwong" in a friendly way. Even though
we had our wedding reception and banquet there, we had only stayed there
once or twice before. The new wing was opened some ten years ago and you
would not be able to tell. Their maintenance is tiptop. The rooms are
all very elegantly designed in a contemporary way. Nothing feels dated.
There are many user friendly features incorporated in the design, all
can be controlled by the bedside panel. When you switch on the night light
in the midle of the night, other 'guiding' lights also light up to lead
you the way to the bathroom, so that you do not have to switch on the
main lights and disturb your partner! Also, when you are soaking in their
jacuzzi bath, enjoying the view of the whole of Kowloon and then the phone
rings, you can press a button on the wall and the intercom comes on! No
need for getting out of the water. Needless to say, they have a TV in
the bathroom too. There is a fax machine, DVD/CD player in the room. In
the dressing area, there is a cubby hole where you can put your shoes
in, press a button and then they will come back nice and shiney the next
morning together with a copy of newspaper! For bathroom amneities, we
got Molton Brown products. We stayed at the 'Peninsula Suite' (the presidential
suite) and they gave full-sized Bulgari products. The house keeping staff
is efficient and courteous. They never fail on your requests. The restaurants
all offer superb food. I cannot put in a bad word at all! We tried their
swimming pool (again with the view of the harbour) and spa. An oasis in
the middle of the city. Again, the service could not be faulted.
Rating: A definite 10.
