Comments: “On February 24, 2002, the new 97-gate
Edward H. McNamara Terminal opened to the public. This new state-of-the-art
facility serves Northwest Airlines and their partner airlines. This Northwest
largest hub is been designed with customer convenience in mind, the new
terminal provides passengers and visitors with fast, efficient service
and many new amenities. Detroit Metro Airport's newest runway - officially
commissioned as Runway 4L/22R - opened in December, 2001. Currently the
airport has 6 runways with dual taxiways to reduce flight delays. The
airport has over 90 self service check-in devices. A Spectacular 900-foot
tunnel links concourses, A with B/C and features a synchronized light
and sound show. If you find time, you should go to this tunnel and only
sit in the middle of it. The peoples meeting point inside concourse A
is a stunning 40 foot granite water feature. Costs over $ 2,000,000.00
and manufactured by the same company, who built the water show in front
of the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. Two express trains, each carrying
200 passengers, runs the full length –nearly 1 mile- with three
stops of 30 seconds, in 2 and a half minutes to the end. If you go to
Detroit, take some time to see the new airport, it’s a great attraction
for everybody.
